I have been truly impressed with the dynamics of these newly published books on research methods and all things related to dissertations and research projects. Bazeley's book meets the mark for substance, clarity, organization and interpreting complex topics in relatable ways for readers. The book recognizes that readers of the book will range from novices to this type of research such as graduate level students embarking on dissertation or thesis work for the first time to seasoned academics working on in-depth research and documentation. It is helpful to all levels of researchers and authors. As the mixed methods of research combining qualitative and quantitative methods become increasingly identified as necessary to capture the full picture of what is being studied, we need contemporary books on research to continually update the models and practices.The website that aligns with the book is also helpful and connects users to myriad resources.

Mixed Methods always seems like it will provide you with the best of all things. You can use quantitative methods to show some validity that qualitative methods call into question, and you can get more in-depth understanding by asking interview and probing questions that a survey wouldn't have. It sounds like the best of both methods, but it is really quite difficult to manage. This book focuses on how to go through the data and analyze what you have received. It answers the biggest question of, "Now what?" On top of this, it gives you a great idea on how to manage what you are receiving and try to mitigate the downfalls of mixed methods. All of the good can also give you all of the bad. Bazeley helps you out so that you don't have to fall into many of the pitfalls that are possible.

I really like that this book brings together a current view on how you can harmonize qualitative and quantitative methods in research. The idea that the two modalities are antithetical to each other is outdated and there has been a great deal of work done on how the two approaches are able to build a more comprehensive, applicable, specific, AND generalizable view of phenomena.

I'd rate this with high marks for a refresher or introduction. Excellent text for college level courses or get up to speed fast for professionals. As a college instructor who performs quite a bit of consulting and writing, this is a solid reference that doesn't require a lot of effort. Good examples, clear explanations and overall solid suggestions. Found a place on my personal bookshelf!
