For anyone interested in a small cruise to Antarctica, this will be of interest as it chronicles the author’s trip. He keeps the trip moving along without bogging down in too many details; in fact, I might have enjoyed more elaboration on the historical and/or educational tidbits. Hearing of the penguins was a highlight for me as I love those little guys. A good book for armchair traveling. Definitely needed the addition of photos.

I was disappointed that this book didn't contain any pictures, just 2 maps of his itinerary. This looked like his travel journal during his trip. Since I've already been to Antarctica and kept a journal myself during my own trip, this particular book didn't add much to my knowledge (in fact, it's made me wonder if I could publish mine as well). But I would recommend this book to someone who is preparing to go.

Well written and a very useful source of info if you are planning a trip. Fabulous place!

Enjoyed watching, learned things I didn't know

I was highly disappointed that there were no photos. The author spoke of taking so many pictures.. and then.. didn't post any. This is more a book about taking a week's cruise to Antarctica ports. As for the various wines he drank before his cruise and during his cruise.. who cares? Not a book I'd recommend to anyone going to Antarctica. The only reason I gave it two stars instead of one.. no major spelling errors.

The information about a trip I am taking next month is very pertinent. I have learned a great deal about what to pack and what not. I have one comment about the book and the author does not know his Latitude from his longitude.Latitude is measured in North or South and starts at the equator to 90 degrees north or south. Longitude in East or west and starts at the Greenwich Meridian and ends 180 degrees later at the International Date line.Hope he gets this minor critique.

This was so interesting (but so short, and with such sketchy maps) that after I read it I went straight to my son's collection of old National Geographic magazines to read more about Antarctica, and to see pictures. (There's a great map in the December 2001 issue, if anyone's interested.)I especially enjoyed the author's human interest anecdotes about his two roommates and the Indian guy who won the right to announce a wake-up call over the ship's PA system. The night a brave group camped on the ice also made for a good story.Highly recommended. (I debated giving it 5 stars for the adventure, but like so many Kindle books I've read this year, it suffered from copy-editing errors.)
