Sorry but the sleuthing was poor and if it had been funny that would have been a different story. The plot idea was good. The characters however left something to be desired. Our heroine acts like a doormat, the two seniors constantly bicker but aren't funny with it and her sister seems to like living as an ostrich even when her twin is danger of being framed for the murder. The cat however has tons of personality and is obviously a much better detective as he made the connection when the humans didn't.She's been left penniless after her divorce and now lives over her sister cupcake store. Her sister is constantly being harangued to sell the store to the aggressive property developer. When he collapses (and later dies) they come under suspicion. Plus the two seniors who normally live upstairs are due back. Now she and the two seniors start asking questions. Will they ask the right ones? Will the killer be exposed?

True Confections is Book 1 in the New Amish Cupcake Cozy Mystery Series.The book opens with Jane Delight (LOVE THAT NAME) and her husband go out for her 50th birthday to a fancy restaurant, which is very uncharacteristic of him. That could be because he is dumping her for his mistress who is pregnant with their baby. Not only that, but she is getting nothing in the divorce because as much as he would like to help her out, she signed a prenup and they need the money for the baby. Oh and they need the house to so get going! I laughed so much at the opening paragraph because this is so relateable and obviously her husband did this in public so she wouldn't freak out.Flash forward six months and Jane has settled into an apartment over her sister's cupcake store. Luckily Jane has a twin sister who takes her in. Only thing is her sister is Amish and Jane has lost that community a long time ago.I absolutely loved this book! The characters were likeable and fun. The story was well developed and I loved reading about the Amish community. This is a sweet clean mystery which will leave you guessing who done it.BONUS! There are two Amish Recipes which I am totally trying. Shoo-fly Pie sounds yummy!This was my first time reading this author , but it won't be the last. I am looking forward to Book 2 Previous Confections: An Amish Cupcake Cozy Mystery.

I loved this Amish ,who done it story. The characters were very defined and the cat brings some chuckles with him. Fun story. I highly recommend!

You cannot beat a great cozy mystery. This series is starting off with a bang. The cat...oh the cat! I liked the premise. So many cozy mysteries are younguns. Nooe, not here! A real person and a real mystery! It's a must read!

When Jane Delight's husband takes her out for her 50th birthday to a posh restaurant, little did she know what was her birthday surprise! He coldly told her they were getting a divorce and he was marrying his mistress. His six month pregnant mistress at that! He told her she would get nothing including the bank accounts and the house. Get out, don't let the door hit you on the way out. So much for a happy birthday!Fortunately Jane has an identical twin named Rebecca who owns a confectionery/bakery. And the store has an apartment over it where Jane can live. The catch? Well for one thing, Rebecca is Amish and Jane left the community on her rummspringa and never came back. Now she is living among the Amish once again but without the restrictions. Everything is working out well except a rich man wants to buy Rebecca's store to make space for a mall and Rebecca is refusing to sell. There is only one other store that has refused. The last time he came into the store he threatened Rebecca, grabbed a sample cupcake, stuffed it in his mouth and promptly fell over saying, "my heart." He dies after being removed from the shop, and soon the detectives are questioning Rebecca and Jane. Everyone knows the Amish are peaceful people so it becomes apparent that Jane must be guilty of murder. During all this, the two elderly ladies who also live above the shop, sharing an apartment with Jane, return from a world tour and wackiness ensues.The author has created a non-Amish core of characters who say and do so many hysterical things. Aside from the three women sharing the apartment, there is a Scottish detective that doesn't know how to handle the Amish, so he goes around bowing to them! The characters who are Amish are written in a typical straightforward (dare I say humorless) fashion. Along the way there are plenty of authentic comments about Amish life and the ways they differ from the English.Ms Hartzler has done an excellent job from start to finish in presenting a good cozy mystery in Amish country. No foul language or bad manners except that one slip up someone made when they chose murder!

True Confections, by Ruth Hartzler, is the first in her new series, "An Amish Cupcake Cozy Mystery". I truly enjoyed this book. I stayed up very late to finish it in one reading, because I just had to know who had been the killer! There were such unique characters, whom I'm anxious to find out more about, that it was a refreshing change from the typical cozy cast. There were tons of twists, and so many possibilities, I couldn't figure it out! Excellently written, superb story that pulls a reader right in! A must read cozy mystery! Don't miss this one!

Good clean easy read.

I enjoyed this refreshingly different mystery. The characters were different from the norm. I enjoyed the touch of romance in the background along with the quirky cat. The ending was quite a surprise as well
