I consider myself a beginning free-motion quilter because so far I've only quilted smaller projects like table runners and toppers. I have not had the guts (yet) or committed to the time required to tackle bigger projects but I do quilt fairly often on practice samples and study quilting via online classes, books, and DVDs. (For my quilting samples, I buy felt fabric yardage usually from Wal-Mart because it is cheap and then cut it into about 40" x 15"pieces. Then fold it in half to get a 20" x 15" piece to practice quilting on. I just can't stand to practice on good fabric because it ultimately gets thrown away.)I have to admit that I'm a Lori Kennedy fan. I've enjoyed reading her articles in a popular quilting magazine (can't remember which one) and I have especially liked her two Craftsy on-line classes "Divide and Conquer: Creative Quilting for Any Space" and "Creative Free-Motion Techniques from Doodle to Design". Because those classes covered so much, I guess I'm spoiled. When I read through Lori's new book, I was a bit disappointed because it seemed like it covered most of what was in the first Craftsy class...I was wanting more. Don't get me wrong, I like the book a lot and highly recommend it.Since you probably haven't taken one of Lori's Craftsy classes (can you tell I highly recommend them? No, I don't get any kickback for saying that), let me tell you about the book ... It does a good job of explaining the supplies and set up of free-motion quilting and stitch quality without getting bogged down in the details. (Some books make my eyes glaze over when they keep saying the same thing over and over again.) Pictures throughout the book are excellent and you can easily see stitch detail. The designs are grouped into chapters of loops & lines, spirals, leaves, flowers, pictorial, and circles & squares. Within those groups each design is broken down and shown step-by-step. I really like that the basic design is shown and then shown with tweaks like echoing or intertwining the design with an additional line of quilting to create a completely new design. It takes each design from simple to outstanding. There are several leaf designs that are very nicely done. I especially like the oak leaf with acorns which is shown used within a block and as border quilting. There are 144 pages and the book has a spiral back so that the pages lay flat (although you cannot fold the book back on itself.)

Finally I could get this book today and I am very happy.This is a really good book for all quilters.First you can see good information before you start free motion in this book, so what you need for free motion quilting, you can find as information.Especially needle, marking tools and threads, it is really good for me to know.There are lots of photos so it is easy to follow each designs.You can have this book next to you always plus I think Lori Kennedy's blog will help you sometime.

I consider myself to be an "advanced beginner" in free motion quilting. I have three books that I have bought and studied. This is by far my favorite. It is well written and illustrated and has lots of ideas for designs, from easy peasy to more advanced. Also like that the book opens flat for easy reference. My free motion quilting has improved a lot since I started using this book (and, of course, lots of practice!)

I got my book today. I can't put it down. The pages are beautiful and I love the spiral bound feature. I bought Lori's Craftsy class and follow her blog and this book has lots of information from both of those. I needed a book in my hand , however, and this is it! Thank you , Lori! I love it.

Good, not great. I've been reading Lori Kennedy's blog for a while and had expected all new material. Probably not reasonable of me. So I'm a bit disappointed about the content, as much of it is familiar already. But she has extraordinarily clear directions about how to achieve results and it's a wonderful reference to have on hand. I am very pleased to have it in my library, I just wish there were more new patterns.

Have been enjoying Lori's blog for a while now and have gleaned so much from her techniques and in her book she demonstrates the simplistic thought process of drawing figures with thread.

I have followed Lori Kennedy's blog - the inbox jaunt - for a while and have always found great tips for fmq, and was very excited when I realized her book was coming out. It does not disappoint: the same clear instructions and tips and simple steps. I fmq'd a baby quilt using one of the patterns and found it very easy.

Not as much a 'how to', but more of photos of her quilting patterns, but there are plenty of 'how tos' on You Tube and this does show her ideas very clearly. Also the book is spiral bound so it lies flat, which is very helpful.
